Keyword Research Services - Do it Yourself

Practicing good SEO techniques requires several skills and knowledge in a lot of areas. However, the basis of all SEO practices is keyword research. Do it right and you are on your way to a successful venture. Do it wrong, and you are fighting an uphill, often unwinnable battle. There are some keyword research services online that can do the dirty work for you. Some are high quality and some are low. All, however, are expensive. And the expense is an unnecessary one. You can simply and easily do it yourself if you know what to look for.

The first thing to determine is what you are trying to accomplish. Are you going to be using the keywords you find to do some article marketing? Will you be doing pay per click advertising? Are you looking for a good domain name? The numbers that will fit your needs will vary depending on what your goal or project actually is.

In basic terms, the higher the number of searches and the lower the number of competing websites is, the more valuable the keyword or keyword phrase is. There are several tools you can use to help in your research process. Some are free, some charge a one time fee.

The best free tool out there is the Google keyword tool. Not only can you get information on the number of searches a certain word or phrase garners, you can also find out how stiff the competition is. Plus, this free tool will give you an idea of what you can expect to pay for a pay per click campaign.

Do-It-Yourself Hardwood Flooring

Hardwood floors will always be in style. There is nothing more satisfying to homeowners than laying down a new hardwood floor, sanding and polishing an exiting hardwood floor, or tearing up a gnarly old carpet to reveal the hardwood underneath. Hardwood floors in great condition truly add value to your home. You have no excuse not to have them somewhere in your house, especially since they are so cheap and easy to install these days. If you already have hardwood floors, then it pays to take care of them. Hardwood floors are a great foundation for any household, because you can always cover them with throw rugs if you wish for a warmer interior. However, the reverse is not true. It is much harder to tear up a carpet and return to hardwood floors than it is to make the move from hardwood to carpet. That is why it pays to start with hardwood floors.

Installing wooden floors can be a do it yourself project. You can transform the look of your home over the course of a weekend. You can purchase pre-cut slats of flooring from your local home improvement store. There is a wide variety of styles and varnishes to choose from, so you can customize your floors to your own taste. Once you select your favorite wood and color, then you can go to town laying the slats on the existing floor of your home. Make sure you have a proper, stripped foundation however before you lay the new flooring. If there is already a carpet in place or old linoleum, you have to rip them up beforehand. Make sure you remove any scraps or staples from the floor before you get started.

After you have a brand new hardwood floor, you need to start caring for it. Most new floors come with manufacturer's directions on how best to keep your floor in superior shape. If you do not find care instructions when you buy your floor, consult the manufacturer's website or an expert at the store where you made your purchase. Most new flooring can be cleaned with soap and water, but older flooring might benefit more from wax cleaners. New flooring typically is already varnished and has a synthetic coating that will keep it safe from harm. Older flooring needs a little more work to keep it sparkling.

Whatever you do, make sure that your hardwood floor has some kind of protective coating. Sometimes the coating is as good as a wax-based cleaner that will prevent the wood from being stained by day-to-day traffic. If the floor is old, you could try sanding it and then varnishing it with a modern substance that has been proven to protect your floors. Hard wood flooring is typically easier to clean than a rug, because a rug requires constant vacuuming and spot cleaning. A hardwood floor can be vacuumed regularly and mopped occasionally, and stay in beautiful, polished shape. If you take proper care of your floor, it will maintain its luster for years to come.

A Do-It-Yourself Whiplash Claim Calculator Guide

Sarah's Story

Sarah had parked her car at a signal when suddenly another car banged into her car from behind. The violent jerk resulted in injuries to her neck. Later, Sarah thought of filing a claim for compensation for her injuries. She believed that her compensation amount would not be more than £2,000. Then she consulted a solicitor who helped her calculate the real worth of her claim. He also advised her on how to file a claim for compensation.

The result: Sarah won £4,000.

To calculate your compensation amount, you do not need a solicitor (though you need one to help you file a claim). Use this easy whiplash claim calculator to know how to do that.

What You Should Know

What Sarah suffered is known as a whiplash injury, or in simpler words, a neck injury or sprain that occurs after a sudden, violent jerk. Several factors influence the compensation amount for such injuries including:

o Extent of injuries suffered

o The duration of your suffering (physical and mental)

o Loss of income due to inability to perform work, medical bills, damage to car, etc.

Whiplash Claim Calculator

The first thing to do after an accident is go to a doctor and seek medical help. Your doctor will diagnose your injuries and document them in a medical report, which serves as vital evidence in a whiplash claim. After you have spoken to your doctor to know the severity of your injuries, use the following whiplash claim calculator to know how much you can claim for.

In general, all whiplash claims can be classified by their severity as:

o Almost Negligible: Injuries are negligible and you recover completely within a few weeks or months of the accident. Compensation amount: £800 - £2,500.

o Minor: Recovery takes a couple of years for minor neck damage. Compensation amount: £2,500 - £4,000.

o Moderate: If there is recurring severe pain, difficulty in movement, stiffness, etc. but complete recovery is eventually possible, then your whiplash can be classified as moderate. Compensation amount: £4,000 - £8,000

o Serious: The accident has resulted in cervical spondylitis, recurring severe pain, and difficulty in movement, needing further treatment. Complete recovery may not be possible. Compensation amount: £8,000 - £14,000.

o Severe: The accident has caused fractures or damages to soft tissues that impair your ability to move or work. £14,000 - £30,000

o Very Severe: This includes severe disabilities such as paralysis of the neck or other parts of the body that may cause a permanent inability to work. Compensation amount: £30,000 - £90,000

Remember, all cases are unique and the figures given here may not necessarily match your case. This whiplash claim calculator can only tell you how much your claim MAY be worth. To win a claim for that amount, speak to a solicitor with experience in whiplash injury claims.

Do it Yourself Sump Pumps - An Expensive Pain in the Back

So you want to install a sump pump yourself? Fantastic! You'll be saving a lot of money! At least, for the first month or two! But before you decide to take this route, consider the chore you're about to take on.

Selecting the Best Sump Pump

Before you install your sump pump, you'll need to decide if you want a cast iron sump pump or a plastic one. Balance out whether or not the money saved on a plastic pump is worth the risk of a flooded basement. A variety of sump pumps are available, and whether you decide on a submersible, water-powered, floor sucker, or pedastal/stand sump pump for your basement and which brand name you choose will decide whether or not your basement floods.

Sump Pump Options

No sump pump is an island. There are numerous options that can make or break the sump pump installation. The size of the sump pump must fit the job- a pump that's too large or too small (and is overwhelmed) for the work is going to fail to keep the basement dry. When sump pumps are too large, they remove water faster than it fills the sump pit, causing them to turn on and off repeatedly and shortening their life. Additionally, your sump pump pit must be large enough for the pump or it will short cycle, or run continuously, which can also potentially shorten its life. Other sump pump installation questions include the following:

How will I keep my sump pump from clogging on the bottom of the sump pit?
How will I know where the lowest part of the basement is so I can install my pump there?
What will I do if my basement has two low spots?
How will I know if my sump pump fails?
Who do I call for help if my sump pump fails?
How will I know if my sump pump isn't strong enough to keep up with a heavy storm?

Sump Pump Woes

Unless you find a sump pump product with an airtight, soundproof lid, you're going to have an ugly, exposed, potentially dangerous, and loud sump pump pit lurking in your basement area. Odors and humidity can freely pass into the home year-round, and the entire house will be less comfortable and energy-efficient.

Beware of sump pump companies that offer warranties that last for too many years. They convince you to choose their product by offering free replacements if the pump fails. Unfortunately, you won't know when it's time to cash in on that warranty until the pump fails and your basement floods! When it does, you may be paying straight out of your pocket to clean it up, as many insurance companies will not cover groundwater flooding. Floods are expensive, damaging to your property, and the first stage in basement mold problems.

Your discharge line can also be a problem. Make sure that your sump pump isn't pushing more water into the discharge pipe than it can hold and that your discharge pipe doesn't freeze in the winter, causing the sump pump to back up. As a final precaution, you'll need to be sure that you're not discharging the water straight into the next yard, or you'll have them to deal with angry neighbors as well!

What will you do if the power goes out? If you plan on using a generator to power your sump pump, you'll need to be there, or the basement will flood. Cheap do-it-yourself batteries aren't the answer either- they often run down sitting on the basement floor, and their charge is rarely strong enough to pump enough water out to keep the basement from flooding.

Installing a sump pump is back-breaking work! It will take a single person many days to install a sump pump and perimeter drain. And if you don't have access to a jackhammer, it'll be even more work! You'll have cement and dirt to remove from the basement, dust to deal with, and an exhausting and sometimes frustrating job on your hands. And if you don't have a jackhammer, how do you plan to break through the floor?

To make matters worse, many sump pump installations are done illegally or against building code ordinances. If you're planning on a do-it-yourself sump pump installation, make sure that you check with local building ordinances first. Otherwise, you might find yourself facing fines and legal hassles.

Your Basement Waterproofing Answers

Sump pump installation is, simply put, a professional job. Pumping a basement out is too expensive to take a chance with, and there are too many ways a do-it-yourself sump pump installation could go wrong. Find a basement waterproofing specialist (not a plumber) who has been in business for five years or more to do the job for you. They can offer you a sump pump and perimeter drain installation that will keep your basement dry all the time with a professionally designed top-quality sump pump system. They've spent years, sometimes decades, working to find the best solution for you, and you can count on them to keep it maintained and working properly maintained. Their reputation depends on it!

How to Use a Do-it-Yourself Machine for Spot Removal

I'm going to show you an easy way to remove spots 95% of the time. It works every time as long as you get to the spot as soon as it happens.

Why would a professional cleaner tell you how to clean spots yourself? Well, there are a few reasons. First, if you have kids or pets in your home, you MUST do some type of interim cleaning.

Most people who have pets get their carpet or rug cleaned once or twice every year. If a pet stain sits in your carpet for six months, it will be more difficult to remove. Carpet needs to be maintained on a regular basis.

Yes, carpet manufacturers recommend professional cleaning at least every year. Some manufacturers actually demand it be done in order to comply with their warranty. Failing to have professional cleaning may void your warranty.

But professional cleaning is only part of the maintenance. Carpet is kept beautiful by vacuuming at least twice per week and taking care of emergency spots IMMEDIATELY after they occur.

What type of machine should you purchase? The brand isn't really as important as making sure you have some type of machine for an emergency. Get a small, hand-held type. The smaller it is, the more likely you are to get it out of the closet. Because let's face it, these happenings are never convenient.

Even a shop vacuum that extracts liquid will do the trick. You can go to the Carpet and Rug Institute's site for machines that are certified by the Carpet and Rug Institute. Bissell, Little Devil, Little Green Machine, etc.

Here's the trick:

1. The first thing you'll need to do is extract all liquid matter from the fibers.

2. Next, treat the area with a neutral PH spot remover (call us or stop by for purchase)

3. Gently blot the spot with a cotton towel

4. If the stain is still there, repeat the process above

5. Last, rinse the spot with water from your spot machine

That's it. It really is that simple.

Now, where people usually go wrong is they skip STEP ONE, which is the most important step of them all. The initial extraction is where you remove the bulk of the spill or accident. Then, the spot remover is used to take care of what's left behind.

As well, you can use a shop wet vacuum to remove the liquid matter. The only difference is you can't rinse with the shop vacuum. Instead, take a glass of water and pour it over the area for a final rinse. Then, extract the rinse water with the shop vacuum.

That's the magic tip. Try it. It works. And if you don't already have a small spot machine or shop vacuum, go out and get one today.

Homemade Solar Hot Water Heater Plans - A Simple Way to Build a DIY Solar Powered Hot Water Heater

The need for hot water is an essential part of a human being's daily activity, with importance running in different ranges such as that from bathing to cooking to first aid and medicine. Electricity and consumption of resources are readily consumed to fulfill this necessity, in the United States of America alone, each household consumes an average of 1000 to 2000 gallons of oil every year just to heat up water and with an almost depleted source of fossil fuels in the earth's crust using hot water in ones home may sooner or later be considered a thing of the past. However with the development, innovation, and simple homemade diy solar hot water heater plans, life in terms of water heating can never be the same again.

Solar hot water heaters capture the sun's unlimited light energy and convert them to heat energy which is responsible for warming up the water source. Home made solar hot water heaters are usually built with aluminum window designed panes lined up with glass windows which act as solar panels or the catchers of the sun's radiant power. Within this glass made container are pipes and tubes which contain copper wires. The copper wires are used to turn the heat it receives to heat-up the stored water in the tank. The lacking step to finish off making a do it yourself home made solar water heater are connections between the device and the storage tank where one keeps the water which needs to be heated up.

The heating panel assembly is usually located below the tank; this is, so that natural movement of water is used to move around the water, need for pump to drive water is thus not needed lessening installation, manufacturing and processing costs.

The heated water initially found near the heated port goes up in the tank and pushes the cold water down replacing it in the system, giving this time a chance for this water to be heated up. This cycle continues until most of the water system has gained thermal equilibrium.

Buying a solar hot water heater is already available in local market stores however building instead of purchasing a personal solar hot water heater is not only good for one's electric monthly consumption (by making the cost of heating water halved or totally eliminated), the environment (it is ecologically friendly giving off lesser pollution directly or indirectly) but also personal satisfaction in knowing that it was through one's own toil, sweat and hard work that such household apparatus was made. Initial cost is also much cheaper when making one as compared to buying, especially if one uses old, recyclable or about to be thrown away materials found hidden behind the shelves of the attic or the garage door.

What Is DIY Plumbing Repair

Do it yourself plumbing. Many of us have run into a problem with our plumbing. If this is the case, you should know some basics about plumbing, before that nasty old problem surfaces. Have you ever gone to turn off the water by the toilet when it is over flowing and broke the water shut off valve? If you have, you know that these things wear out after a while, especially in older homes.

Performing DIY plumbing requires that you know what plumber's tape is, what a pipe wrench is and looks like and of course, knowing how to replace the pipes and fittings in case you need some new materials. Older pipefitting and pipes may not always match today's plumbing materials.

What DIY Plumbing Entails

When you have a plumbing repair project and you need to fix the problem quickly, think about the problem and what you need to correct it before jumping into the job. Some things to remember about plumbing repair are, first, access the problem. Where is the problem coming from and how will you go about gaining access to the area. Find the area and then see what materials you will need to correct the problem before to much damage occurs.

Now that you know where the problem is, you can turn off the water, and then disconnect the faulty part of the plumbing. In most cases, it is the pipe or the fitting. As you disassemble the piping and fitting, check each piece to ensure no other pieces will become damaged soon. I always, replace everything, because the cost is not bad at all.

Once you buy the materials, you can then start putting your plumbing back together. Do not forget the plumbers tape for the fittings. This assures a tight fit with no leakage. DIY plumbing will benefit your home if you have a leakage problem, but also will save you money on calling a plumber to fix the problem.

What most of us think is a big project

turns out to be a relatively small project with just a little money and some hard work. You will find that fixing the problem is not as hard as you thought it would be. Therefore, access the problem, disassemble the area, then gather your materials, and fix your own plumbing problem. It does not get any easier than that.

The Do-It-Yourself Guide to Debt Settlement

Do you fall into one of these categories:

You are making your monthly payments each month and contributing a little extra on top of your monthly minimums; thus paying down your debt a steadily, only you've done the math and it will take you around 18 years.

You are making your monthly payments each month but only the minimum payments and not making any progress on the principal; you feel that at any moment if something were to happen to you, for instance you lose your job, then all your obligations will spiral out of control.

Your debt is overwhelming but you think you've got a handle on your debt by borrowing from family and friends, transferring balances whenever a low interest offer comes in the mail, and robbing Peter to pay Paul whenever there's an opportunity to do so. You believe this is your answer to "managing" your debt.

You are thinking that bankruptcy is your only option. Please don't do this! Bankruptcy should not be used until after all options have been explored and exhausted.

If any of the above sounds like you, then read on and this article may prove useful after all.

Credit card debt is scary; and with stagnant wages, a deflating housing market, adjustable (ARM) loans coming due, credit cards companies spiking interest rates as high as 30% and tacking on unnecessary fees - it's not a matter of if the bottom will fall out, it's a question of when. The good news is that although limited, there are options. The option that you will learn and presented in this manual is in our opinion the most effective and quickest way out of debt, aside from a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy - it's known as Debt Negotiation or Debt Settlement.

What we are talking about here is simply bartering. We've all done this before - whether it's buying a vehicle, a home, or a t-shirt in Cancun; the principal is the same. Except we're not negotiating the interest rate to a lower rate nor the monthly services charges down a minimal fee, we are negotiating the entire balance of your credit card debt. The goal will be to reduce your debt to around 50%, maybe even less:

12.5 Steps to Get Out Of Debt by Way of Settlement

Step 1: Understand your risks and realities of overdue debt. Can you get sued? Yes. Can a creditor garnish your wages? Yes. The possibilities do exist but the chances are small. The reality is that it is simply too much time and too much of an expense on the creditor's part to take action against you.

Step 2: Gather all your bills and calculate the total debt that you want to settle.

Step 3: Know which debts are good candidates for settlements. Secured debts cannot be settled (home or auto); unsecured debts has nothing attached to the loan or debt and can be included.

Step 4: Know your creditor umbrellas. For instance if you want to include a MBNA credit card or a FIA credit card in your settlements - you need to know that these are owned by Bank of America. And if you have a Bank of America bank account, your money and savings could be affected. There is a clause in the contract when you opened up your bank account called the Right of Offset. To put it simply, Bank of America can reach into your account at any time and collect on their funds, interest, or late fees. In this case if you wanted to include those two credit cards, you will want to either close or minimize your BOA account and start banking elsewhere.

Step 5: Remember a creditor will only settle if you are delinquent on an account. If you continue to make minimum payments or a bit more to chip at your debt, you have no leverage and the creditor has no reason to settle. Minimum payments = profits! (If you owe $30,000, you could end up paying back $102,000 just by paying the minimum payments only).

Step 6: Once you fall delinquent and behind on your debts - brace yourself for a flurry of harassing phone calls and nasty letters to your home and work. Remember when you filled out your application and had to fill out several references? Know that these references will be contacted as well. Don't cave in or panic. Keep a cool and level head. Unless you are a professional arbitrator, don't talk to them on the phone, correspond via letters and be sure to keep all paper trails.

Step 7: Find out if your account is still with the original creditor. You will have to do some leg work on this. Call your original creditor. If the account is still with them, they will start dealing with you. Otherwise your account is with a collection agency and they will either refer you to them or not; more than likely they won't refer you to them and you will simply have to wait until that collection company calls you.

Collection companies are companies that buy bad debts on pennies on the dollar for the debt that they are trying to collect.

There are also law firms that pose as collection companies. Correspondence received from these companies can be very intimidating but if they are - remember 99% of the time they're simply empty threats.

Step 8: Start Haggling. Keep in mind that the collection company will take less money than they initially ask. Timing is also everything. Factors to consider: Delinquency of your debt, Time of the Month, Time of the Year, and more importantly who the creditor is. Each creditor has their threshold as to how log they can negotiate; and knowing these thresholds are key.

Step 9: Once you and the creditor agree on a settlement offer, remember they will want their money right away - usually within 48-72 hours. So if you have a $1000 credit card and you negotiate it down to $600, make sure that you have that $600 on you to pay them immediately.

Step 10: Get your terms in writing before paying. This is important! Never expect a creditor that has made an agreement verbally. And even though it is in writing you'll still have to fight to keep the creditor at their word.

Step 11: Negotiate your credit rating with the creditor. Understand that by way of settlement, your credit rating will be negatively affected. Be sure that once you have paid a settlement, that the creditor reports this to your credit report.

Step 12: First the good news - you are debt free! The bad news is that your credit rating has taken a hit. Just remember time heals all wounds and will restore your credit rating. You can also seek the help of a credit repair company to speed up the credit rebuilding process and get you back on track.

Step 12 ½: It's CELEBRATION TIME! If you drink, then bottoms up. If you celebrate by going out to eat, then treat you and your loved ones to a steak and lobster dinner. Whatever your vice is, you deserve a pat on the back! You have just saved yourself years upon years of pain and thousands upon thousands of dollars of your hard-earned money that would have otherwise gone towards ridiculous fees and interest.

At this point you might wonder why some people would choose to work with specialists like RAM Financial Services rather than do this on their own. The simplest answer is to answer that question with another question: Why do people hire real estate agents to sell their home? Why do most people depend on investment bankers to invest their money?

Simply put:

They're professionals. They do their line of work all day everyday on a full time basis and have the working relationships to get the job done effortlessly and to maximum potential.

I wish you the best of luck in all your haggling endeavors and if you have questions whatsoever please feel free to contact us at any time.

Mosaic Tiles - DIY

When one thinks of installing your own mosaic tiles, there are strong assumptions of complicated, lucrative designs of the Roman Empire. I am not suggesting that the mosaics you have in your home have to be like how the Romans did. When installing your own mosaic tiles in either your bathroom or kitchen, you open yourself up to a world of unlimited designs and possibilities of how you want your room to look. The power of doing it yourself enables you to create your very own patterns and layout of the design. However, this would be a very hard and complicated task, which is why new style mosaics are made in sheets for easy tileing and DIY purposes.

To install mosaic flooring yourself is fairly simple. The key fundamentals one should remember when installing mosaic tiles is that it is imperative the sub floor is clean and dry. This will give a strong foundation to the tile and enable it to stick. If the floor is covered in dirt and debris there will be less cohesion of the tile and cement, which will inevitably loosen the tile. The adhesive you use is imperative. By using a good quality adhesive you will know the tile will stick and not fall apart, which is something you most definitely don't want happening with mosaic tiles because once one piece breaks the rest will follow. There are two different mainstream types of mosaic tiles that that can be purchased: glazed and unglazed. When one uses glazed tiles it is important for safety that they are not used on the floor because they tend to be very slippery when wet, therefore should be used on the walls. Non glazed tiles grip more when wet and should be used on the floor. Finally during the installation of the tiles is it imperative that when laying down the especially in showers and wet- rooms is that they are level. This is because if they are not made level water will not flow where you indent it to. On many occasions it is known for some rooms to flood and not drain properly because of the way in which the tiles are laid.

The maintenance of mosaic tiles is not a complicated process. By being single tiles they are subject to entrapping more dirt; however a simple once over with a vacuum or damp cloth is sufficient. These types of tiles are very easy to clean and maintain which is why they are use mainly in kitchens and bathrooms where there is a constant flow of mess from cooking and soap etc.

From this article it is possible to see that installing mosaic tiles yourself is not as complicated as you may have thought. With the correct tools and making sure the foundations are right enables you to create any floor or wall design you want. Furthermore, the maintenance of these tiles is as simple as cleaning a normal floor, there are no extra cleaning utensils required because these tiles are made from strong durable materials.

DIY Installation Kits and Four Seasons Sunrooms

At one time, having a sunroom added to your home meant having to hire a contractor to do the work for you. With the introduction of 'do-it-yourself' kits- or DIY kits- that is no longer necessarily a fact of life. By installing the sunroom yourself, you are essentially saving thousands of dollars by cutting the cost of labor out of the equation. There are a number of sunroom manufacturing companies that offer DIY kits and will ship you the all necessary materials to put the room together.

Understanding the Price of DIY Kits

The price of the DIY kit you order will be based on the style and the method of constructing or installing your sunroom. For example, building a small four seasons sunroom made of aluminum on top of an already existing deck or cement slab will cost less than building a whole new foundation and sunroom with wood framing. An existing deck or patio is the perfect palette for erecting a sunroom because it is already properly graded and prepared. It will also make measuring for your kit a breeze. Without a patio, you will need to not only pick the best location for your sunroom, you will need to grade and prepare the area before you can begin construction. This changes the amount of work to be done and changes the cost of the project if it becomes necessary to hire a contractor to prepare the foundation for you.

Understanding Important Facts About Your DIY Kit

Something to think about when ordering your DIY kit is that they are merely 'installation kits'. This means they are simply built onto the side of your home and do not come with heating and cooling systems. Rerouting your current HVAC system would require changing the line of your home. This brings building codes into play- something you need to hire a contractor for. If heating and cooling is not an issue, or you live in a climate that will allow you to get by with ceiling fans or a portable heater, then by all means purchase your kit and get to work! Otherwise, you will need to think about the other option of hiring a contractor to construct a sunroom for you. This option may be more expensive but it means- unlike DIY kits- that the work and materials will be covered by a guarantee. In a DIY kit, it is generally only the materials that are covered by a warranty.

Do-It-Yourself Home Improvement Project

Identify what kind of improvements you want to be done in your home. It may depend on your hobbies and interests. Study your house carefully, and anticipate problems like post barriers that must be removed.

Draft your plan. Allocate budget for the job and stick to it. Search for an affordable but good home improvement contractor. You can inquire in home improvement centers, local home shops, the Internet, and print advertisements.

The success of any project on home improvement is in the hands of the contractor. Choose an expert to make intelligent decisions for you.

Pointers in choosing contractor for home improvement projects:

1. Choose a contractor that specializes on the specific improvement you want. Contractors have different specialties, like landscaping, swimming pool constructions, and tile setting.

2. Make sure a contractor understands your requirements and reasons for renovation. A good contractor can work around a client's budget and still deliver.

3. It is better to hire the ones strongly recommended by friends. Consider the contractor who have accomplished similar jobs before.

4. A professional contractor always prepare written contracts. Never settle for verbal agreements.

5. Good contractor provides information on his subcontractors and suppliers for homeowners to check and keep.

6. Get quotations from at least three contractors and weigh the pros and cons side by side.

7. A good contractor writes down his plans and materials to be used.

8. A good contractor supervises a project from start to end, and is adherent to the terms of the contract.

Quick Home Makeover by Changing Hardware

Change doors and fixtures to give the house a modern look. This is true especially for outdated fixtures.

Determine the style and look you want. Consider the intended furnishings and select the matching hardware. Purchase new door knobs, handle, plumbing fixtures and those needed to be replaced.

Simple deck repairs can liven up a room and more importantly prolongs the life of the materials.

Some common troubles with decks and their simple solutions:

Sinking Posts

Place a jack below the closest joist to the bad post. Raise the deck slowly to its original level. Make incremental lifts; pause and listen to hear for breakage. As soon as the deck becomes level, slide a short piece of pipe around the post. Use the pipe length as the funnel; pour pea-sized gravel into the pipe to the bottom of the hole. Gently move the pipe up and down to fill the hole up completely. Repeat the process until the deck retains the correct level even when the jack is released.

Broken Joist

Remove all floorboards that make contact with the damaged joist. Once the joist is accessible, remove the nails that fix the affected joist into the hanger. The joist can easily slide out. Carefully make a new joist with the same measurement as the previous one, or use the old one. After securing the joist to a new hanger or the existing joist hanger, replace the floorboard to its original pattern.

SEO Tips - Do it Yourself Or Outsource?

Whether you know it or not, SEO can be a time consuming process, especially if you involve yourself in all aspects of the process itself. So the question I am going to put forth in this article is a simple one. When doing SEO for your site, should you do it yourself or should you outsource the work? Well, the answer I'm going to give you just might surprise you. Keep on reading to find out just how I feel about this subject.

I will be the first to admit that I am no SEO expert...not by a long shot. However, I do know all the basics and can get a site up the SERPs pretty quickly, if not in record time. I do know that to do everything you need to do to properly SEO your site, it is a lot of work and very time consuming. Let me give you one example of what I'm talking about. Let's tackle social bookmarking.

For starters, most people go about doing this all wrong. See, your typical marketer will go to a social bookmarking site, like Digg, and only bookmark his own sites. This is not the way to get the most juice out of your efforts. You need to actually become a part of the community, which means filling in ALL your details and actually bookmarking other things of interest that are NOT your own site. In fact, you should bookmark more things that AREN'T your own site than your site itself. THAT is how to properly use social bookmarking.

Unfortunately, this is VERY time consuming as you can imagine, especially since you should be doing this for a minimum of 25 sites. I recommend between 50 and 100. Think about how much time this takes. It's almost mind numbing. So you would therefore think that I would immediately recommend that you outsource things like this. Well, that's where you'd be WRONG...at least not to start. But why? Why am I suggesting that you do this yourself?

By doing this yourself, you actually learn the process and understand it. That way, if down the road you decide to outsource, you can tell the person exactly what you want done and how. Sometimes by leaving things in the hands of an the person you hire, you can end up getting banned from these sites because they end up doing nothing but spamming the bookmarking sites. That's why, something like this, you want to be hands on...at least at the start.

Each aspect of SEO needs to be taken on a case by case basis. Some things are simple enough that they can be outsourced with very little chance of a screw up. But even those items should be done by you at first so that you understand how they work. This way, if the person you outsource to fouls things up, you'll know.

Anyway, there you have it. Outsourcing is not a cut and dried proposition for SEO. But in any case, I do recommend that you learn to do it yourself FIRST.

It will save you a lot of grief down the road.

To YOUR Success

Do It Yourself Wines - Inexpensive Yet Creative Home Made Wines

The first thing that comes to mind when thinking of home made wines is grapes. How can we not associate wine with grapes when all you see on the shelves of liquor stores are countless wines produced by Zinfandel, Pinot Noir, Cabernet and other types of grapes? There are, however, other fruits that can make a great wine. Since home making wine has become a popular hobby it has become more and more inexpensive and easy to make a creative wine all on your own. These wines can be made of affordable fresh fruits possibly from your own backyard. No matter where you live in the world, you are a short walk or car ride away from edible plants, berries and fruits which can easily make a great tasting creative wine. Many plants bear fruit that can be made into a delicious wine to suit your individual taste.

The list of fruits which can be used to make creative home wines is endless. To get a small taste of suitable, inexpensive fruits, you can choose from strawberries, watermelons, peaches, blackberries, plums, grapefruits, pears and pineapples to name just a few. To further assist you in your creative home wine making, I have compiled a list of very inexpensive, creative fruits and other surprising foods that can be made into wines that will leave you wanting more and more. Some of these will be quite shocking for you to see in the context of wine. However, they are assured to be delicious. Almonds, apple cider, apricots, bananas, carrots, cherries, cranberries, dates, figs, garlic, ginger, honeysuckle, jelly, kiwi, mint, melons, onions, pea pods, pumpkin, raspberries, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, watermelons and zucchinis are some suggestions to tasty, inexpensive yet creative wines that can be made at home. As with any wine, you must first evaluate the fruit. A wine is only as good as the fruit used to make it. To achieve the most superior wine, carefully choose each piece of fruit used. Be sure that molds and bruises are minimal. You should also thoroughly clean the fruit before crushing it. It is best to use fruits that are fully ripe. When attempting to use a fruit before it is fully ripe, it has a tendency to take away from the taste and richness of the wine.

Fruit wines are usually diluted with water before starting the wine making process. This is done because many fruits are very strong in flavor or too high in acid. This would greatly affect the outcome of the wine’s taste.

Some other great examples of inexpensive yet creative wines are Dandelion Wine, Crabapple Wine and Tea Wine. Although cultivated for food, herbs and tea for long periods of time, most Americans see dandelions as weeds and look to remove them from their gardens. However, the flower petals on dandelions can be used to make wine. Dandelion wine is typically a light wine with little body. When using dandelions to make wine, pick the flowers just before starting to make the wine, to assure freshness. There are different forms of dandelion wine, one recipe is as follows: 2 qts dandelion flowers, 3 lbs granulated sugar 4 oranges, 1 gallon water, yeast and nutrient. Dandelion wine is well suited to make into a sparkling wine.

Crabapple wine is another option for an inexpensive, creative wine that can be made by yourself. You can leave the peeling on the apples, but should remove the seeds. As always, thoroughly wash the fruit. A recipe for crabapple wine is 4lbs ripe crabapples, 2 lbs granulated sugar, 1/4 tsp tannin, ½ tsp acid blend, ½ tsp peetie enzyme, 1 tsp yeast nutrient 7 ½ pts water, 1 crushed Campden tablet and champagne wine yeast.

Yet another affordable wine that can be made at home is tea wine. You can use a variety of teas, such as black tea or green tea. The recipe for black tea wine calls for 4 tablespoons bulk black tea, 1 11oz can frozen red or white grape concentrate, 2 lbs sugar, 2 tsp citric acid, 6 pts water, 1 tsp yeast nutrient, 1 pkt wine yeast.

Regardless of what type of wine you choose to make, be creative and have fun. Don’t be afraid to try new things. By making your own wine at home can possibly create a new and delicious wine that will dazzle you and your friends.

Do it Yourself Facials

We all fantasize about receiving luxury spa treatment once in a while but that's not always reality. Of course that doesn't mean that you can't experience spa services in the privacy and comfort of your own home. There are plenty of great ways to do it yourself. So maybe you don't have a masseuse and a mud bath facility but a rejuvenating facial once or twice a week is easy and fabulous for maintaining healthy, glowing skin. Facial kits and creams can be found at your local drugstore or you can make your own using ingredients found at home. Don't feel pressured into high priced products or services if you can't afford it. There are other ways that work just as well.

Knowing your skin is essential. The type of thing that works well for dry skin won't have the same effect on oily skin. A clay mask is usually applied for those with oily skin. Buy one ready made or look up an easy at home recipe online. There are many sites dedicated to providing this type of information. Don't hesitate to utilize the resources at your fingertips. People suffering from dry and itchy skin should look into cream facials that offer moisturizing benefits. If you purchase facial scrubs or masks, always take care to read and follow the directions thoroughly. It's also a good idea to do a small allergy test on a portion of skin before applying it to your entire face. That's the last place anyone wants to have a bad reaction break out.

Steam is a required part of any facial. Run hot water in the sink or turn the shower on hot and let the bathroom fill with steam. It's excellent for opening up the pores. When your pores are open it's much easier to cleanse oils from your skin. Not only is it great for cleansing but it feels amazing. Creating a mini sauna in your bathroom can be as good as the real thing.

Once you've selected the facial mask and applied it successfully, it's important to leave it on for about fifteen minutes. If you want to throw a couple of cucumber slices on your eyes and kick back in a lounge chair, by all means do so. Though you may want to avoid falling asleep and waking up with a dried mask. Rinse it thoroughly with warm water and pat dry. Alternatives to store bought facials range among everything from berry juice to bananas. The classic recipe of oatmeal and egg whites is no longer the only choice. Many foods are high in vitamins and minerals that are good for your skin.

An at home facial can be done once or twice a week for a healthy glow. If you have problem skin then you may need to do it more or less, depending on your personal needs. A do it yourself facial is a great way to get the benefits of the spa without having to pay the price that goes along with it. There's no reason for anyone to miss out on soft, pampered skin.

Inexpensive DIY Solar Power

Inexpensive DIY solar power is easy to achieve for your home if you have the right knowledge and tools to get the project done. The easiest way to install a solar power system is to purchase a solar power kit that includes all of the materials that you need to complete a full system.

The prices on DIY solar power kits are dropping as the technology gets better and better, a solar power kit is actually much more affordable today than it was ten years ago.

There are many advantages to using an inexpensive DIY solar power kit, including: using the renewable energy from the sun will slow down the consumption of fossil fuels such as coal and oil. We all know that there are a limited supply of these fossil fuels, and so we should do everything that we can to conserve them.

Another advantage to solar power is that it is very environmentally friendly. Solar power energy does not cause any type of pollution or garbage in the air. This is a very important advantage because there is so much pollution that is caused by the burning of fossil fuels.

There are few things to consider before purchasing the supplies that are needed to build an inexpensive DIY solar power kit. First of all, you should analyze the area that you have to work with, make sure that there is a good location where you can put the panels. You will need an area that has direct contact with the sun, make sure that there are no trees or buildings that shade the area.

Also, think about the amount of power that you will need for your home. Look at how many major appliances will be powered by the solar energy, and how often they are used. Make sure that you have enough solar panels to meet the needs of your home.

Purchasing an inexpensive DIY solar power kit is a little bit of an investment in the beginning, but once it is up and running it will save you a lot of money. Your monthly utility bills will be drastically reduced, and the solar panels require little maintenance and upkeep which will also help you save money.

Homemade Wind Generators - Why Buy When You Can DIY?

Why Buy Commercial Wind Generators?

Of course you could buy a $25,000 wind generator and get off the grid, but it's going to take 25 years to pay for itself. Why pay that amount when you can make a homemade wind generator for $50? So which would you rather have, one wind generator that takes 25 years to pay for itself, or one wind generator that takes 1 year to pay for itself? If you have some DIY in your veins, the answer is clear. Homemade wind generators not only pump out current they are a blast to make! Homemade doesn't mean noisy and ugly, with some good plans you can make some really nice wind generators that pump out commercial current.

You Can DIY Yourself Off The Electirc Grid

I wouldn't rely on wind generators alone. I have seen some air foils that pump out in 2-3 MPH winds, these units are noisy and clunky though, but worth keeping an eye on. I mean if the wind ain't blowin', your TV ain't glowin'. So what do you do? Well, you can couple technology. How does a solar powered gondola sound, and what about bio diesel? Companies literally throw away their used oil. Used oil alone could heat your entire house for the winter. Some savvy companies have converted their shops to burn used oil for heat. That's like a double whammy for use and efficiency on the companies part. So what's stopping you from doing the same? Nothing really, with a little ingenuity you can get off the electric grid, and even pump some spare electricity back into the grid. When you get to that point the electric companies start paying you. If you want to go completely green, look into wind and solar with bio diesel as a backup. Getting energy from the Earth, without destroying it, is truly an admirable goal, that is achievable. So go DIY yourself up some homemade electricity, it's admirable and fun!

Do-It-Yourself Advertising Campaigns For Small Businesses

Research, persistence and consistency are the three keys to effective do-it-yourself advertising for small business owners. With a combination of these three, a small business owner can become their own advertising agency and keep their business name and message in front of the public effectively.

Most small business owners operate on a shoestring budget, so there is a need for free or low-cost advertising options. That's where the research part of the equation comes into play. Be sure to set aside time to surf the net specifically for this purpose. Search for sites that offer free classified advertising, take the time to check them out, and then select the best. Many of these are pure junk, but there are some that are quite effective ways of getting your business name and your product or service in front of a large audience. Be sure to always include your website address as many of these classified listing will show up in search results.

Research can also yield a variety of resources for your small business marketing and advertising. My small business has benefited from the various free printed materials offered by Vista Print. They are an online printing company which offers free business cards and a variety of other free items. You pay only a small shipping charge. This is a fantastic resource for any new or small business to get quality printed materials for very little money. This is one of the resources I discovered through my constant research and has been invaluable to my business. With a little searching, you can find similar resources for your business online.

Persistence and consistency go hand in hand for the small business owner. We know the importance of persistence and consistency in the day to day activities of running our business, but we must also remember their importance in promoting our business. With all the nuts and bolts issues involved with running a business, we often forget about promoting it. That's where the persistence and consistency elements come in. Focus on making a persistent effort to consistently market and promote your business. Each day, try to do at least one thing to promote your business name and the products and/or services you offer. People often overlook your message the first dozen or so times they see it, but will sometimes respond after they have seen the same message repeated consistently. It can be very frustrating, especially when you don't see immediate results, but it is well worth the effort in the long run.

In addition to these three elements, there are a couple other basics every small business should include in their advertising mix. The first of these is a clearly recognizable logo that represents your business. Think golden arches. If you are unable to design a logo for yourself, spend the money to have one created for your company. Then, make sure that logo appears on every single piece of printed material that comes from your business, and also on every single internet communication you generate, from your website to your email signature. Through consistent use of this image, you will be helping to build your business' brand and creating a visually recognizable reminder of that brand.

The second thing every small business should have is a website. There are so many options available these days for easily creating and maintaining a website that there is truly no excuse for any small business owner not to have one. Your website is an excellent opportunity for you to post extensive information about your business and to easily and quickly update information and communicate with prospective customers. Of course, a beautiful website will do your business no good if no one visits it, so you will need to apply the principles of research, persistence and consistency to properly promote and advertise that website. Research the correct ways to submit your site to the major search engines and internet directories and then be persistent about consistently promoting your website through listing the URL on all printed materials and any other means you can find.

The most basic advice I would offer relating to do-it-yourself advertising campaigns for small business owners is to simply give marketing and advertising the same priority you give other areas of running your business. Just as you set aside time to go through the drudgery of bookkeeping and other necessary functions, be sure to set aside time to research advertising opportunities and then be persistent in delivering consistent advertising messages to all those potential customers out there.

Tips For Building Storage Shelves In Your Garage

Many people use their garage as home for all types of items and miscellaneous things that they do not have any other place for. So all sorts of items from sporting equipment to books to tools to handyman and equipment find their way into the garage. Some garages lose their original purpose, which is for parking cars. If you are one of those people who use their garage mainly for storage then you should think about putting in some shelving. A well-organized shelf not only provides a convenient place to store hardware and tools but also it is great for working on home projects. Building plans for shelves are available at most home improvement shops.

There are two kinds of garage shelving. You can opt for pre-fabricated or custom-built. Obviously prefabricated shelving is a lot cheaper and you can find a wide variety of sizes to fit your space. This kind of shelving can be found at your local handyman center or your neighborhood lumberyard.

A very basic garage shelf is made of plywood or lumber and is secured with shelf brackets. In this case the brackets are attached to this studs using long screws. To increase their strength, a brace can be added at each stud. You can also use floor-supported shelves.

Material

Although you can use plastic shelving a much better choice is prefabricated steel shelves. Plastic shelves are for light duty and you will soon outgrow them when you start storing heavier items. There is a disadvantage to steel shelving in that it cannot be cut to sizes so you have to go with standard widths and other dimensions so you have to make sure that it fits your space.

Adjustability

When considering prefabricated shelves, you have to pay attention to adjustability. Shelves should be adjustable and the pins for adjusting the shelves should have a locking mechanism so they do not get lost or misplaced.

Safety

When you install shelving in your garage, it is a good idea to make sure that the shelving is attached to the wall to prevent tipping; shelving can be dangerous especially if you have heavy equipment loaded on them.

Hooks

Consider installing hooks into the ceiling joists for hanging bicycles, miscellaneous tools, canoes, etc. Installing hooks will help you greatly in freeing up space on your shelves.

Getting rid of clutter

Most garages turn into junkyards over time. So consider going through your garage and its shelving on a periodic basis to throw away things that you no longer need.

Have a garage sale!

Instead of throwing away things that you no longer need, a better option and one that saves resources, is having a garage sale. This is a great way to meet your neighbors and get rid of things that you do not need anymore; although this is not something to be done for making money as most garage sale customers are looking for very

Flip House DIY - Mistakes Can Be Avoided, I Knew That

Before thinking about investments or making you way to generate profit from "buy-renovate-sale" idea, first it may be useful to think about possible "pro's" and "con's" regarding the home renovation in general and flipping house in particular. Here are few points to consider:

Number one - The potential of property. This should be thorough analyzed before moving forward. With 3L approach (location, location, location) there are also other factors that will affect the project plan and return on investment. The quality of environment and neighborhood is mostly driven by location and price category that will require corresponding quality and level of renovations. There is no sense to invest, let say, 50,000 in kitchen upgrade if house cost is less that two hundred, for example. The potential of any property, optimistically, is very rare more then third (or quoter) part of initial price, even in foreclosure case. Consult you real estate agent to find out the sold properties in area. After, ask to provide the prices, that they were bought for by previous owners. This will give the idea about trends and overall brackets for price fluctuations in particular area. This biggest mistake in better case scenario can cost people barely covering the expanses when they buy property, invest in renovation and selling that after. Basically, it means that mistake was made when house was bought, not sold.

Number two - Know what renovations you are going to do. Again, turn around and assess the property potential before demolition. This is good when it can be easily re-planned, but this is bad when, for example, wall you want to remove happened to be supporting and you should use engineered and therefore, costly alternatives, to keep structural strength of the house. From other side, just fresh paint and floor sanding alone will not really bring additional value to property and will not gain much in price difference.

Number three - Avoid extended project plans and long-term commitments. Seasonal fluctuations in pricing, market and public demand should be in sync with your project deadlines (with some contingency, of course). Let say you know the property, location is fabulous and the potential of upgrade is promising. However, if you miss the hot spring selling season still when finishing the project, this will cost you few months of extended mortgage, percentage on loan that can deplete all your profits.

Therefore -Number four - have project plan ready before starting. I sounds maybe weird to have it in advance, before even property assessments, but generally, it is possible. If you have template, you need just modify it for particular property. Though, the main steps are always the same - demolition, framing, systems (plumbing, electric, HVAC, you name it), wall and finishing, however, it is crucial to coordinate all of them. For example, the importance of dependencies is huge, you need to plan systems before you have walls covered. Sometimes you need to rip off the drywall to put forgotten wires or cables, but sometimes you can go mad because of repositioned plumbing pipes require to strip off the tiles you just made. Re-work is costly not only because of double expenses, it costs to you also your time and jeopardizes the entire deal outcome.

How Your DIY Solar Pool Heater Can Help You Get So Much More Out Of Your Pool Or Spa

A solar pool heater means more enjoyment, more fun from your swimming pool or outdoor spa. Anyway, why do you have one? It is a valuable investment on which you also spend much time and money, looking after it.

There are four means of heating your pool

* by using an electric heater

* using gas, usually a propane heater

* using a pool cover

* and by using solar pool heating

You are probably aware already that heating a swimming pool electrically or with gas is very costly. Accordingly many people choose not to heat the pool at all at cooler times of the year or day, thereby foregoing your potential enjoyment from your pool .

Only because it is expensive to keep it warm and usable.

Why would you invest so much in a pool and then not splash around in it for a good deal of the time? It is easier than you think, and cheaper, to use solar power energy and make your pool or outdoor spa a much more welcoming environment to savor at any time you want. A solar pool heater - or spa heater - enables you to carry over the use of your pool or outside spa into springtime and fall, chilly evenings and morning time*.

Additional rewards of solar pool heating include:

* You economize on utility bills, charged for running a conventional pool heater

* No bills for solar energy - it is free!

* You cut down on greenhouse gas emissions

Of course you are able to purchase a solar pool heater, maybe spending up to $2000. Or you can construct one yourself. For much less.

You might ask, Is a DIY solar pool heater not highly complex and pricey to build? No, rest easy, it just takes a good set of instructions and common DIY skills to make one yourself. A fourteen year-old might be able to do it.

And the cost? Well, it can really be done for the piddling sum of less than US$100.

Sure, naturally you do need a circulation pump and if that runs on mains power it will take just 15 to 20 Watts only for a 30,000 litre pool. But of course, using a solar powered pump won't even call for this use of mains power. There are solar pool heaters for various situations, and they come in whatever size. Rooftop systems lie flat on your roof and are best used for the very large pools, or you may like to look at an system, placed on the ground. The on the ground system is set up directly next to your pool with the greatest possible exposure to the sun's warmth.

It is this ground system that you could be build for under US$100. So, in choosing your solar pool heater system you need to know the size of your pool and your local weather. You do need some sunshine but good solar heaters work even on cloudy days!.

A word of warning. Do remember that heated pool water is a good breeding ground for bacterial and algal growth so you must monitor correct chlorine or salinity levels to the pool or spa water. You should obtain some expert advice about that from your local pool supplier.

Oh yes , and the pool cover. By all means use it as a passive solar top-up of your pool enjoyment. It will help you make the most of your greatly enhanced pool.

Now off you go - enjoy your swim!
